マチュ・ピチュ(ja)Peru / Cusco / Santa_Ana world, park, monument, machu picchu, peru, nature conservation park / area, UNESCO World Heritage Siteマチュ・ピチュ（Machu Picchu）は、現地語では「老いた峰」の意味で、よく保存されたインカの遺跡である。ペルーのウルバンバ谷 (Urubamba valley) に沿う高い山の尾根（標高約6,750ft、2,057m）に位置し、山裾からはその存在を確認できない。しばしば《インカの失われた都市》あるいは《空中の楼閣》と呼ばれる。この遺跡には3mずつ上がる段々畑が40段あり、3,000段の階段でつながっている。遺跡の面積は約13Km2で、石の建物の総数は約200戸が数えられる。マチュ・ピチュに関する多くの謎が未だに解明されていない。 熱帯山岳樹林帯の中央にあり、植物は多様性に富んでいる。行政上クスコと同じ地域に属している。現在ペルー国内では10ヶ所あるユネスコの世界遺産のうちでは最初にクスコと同時(1983年)に指定された。
